Congress will support sub-quotas in women's reservation bill

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Congress party has maintained that it was up to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party coalition to initiate amendment in the Women's Reservation Bill to ensure sub-quotas for other backward classes, dalits and minorities and said it would not initiate any move in this regard.

Briefing mediapersons, Congress spokesperson Ajit Jogi said the bill has been piloted by the government and hence the amendments should also be initiated by them. However, if the government brought in an amendment to provide reservations for OBCs, dalits and minorities, the party would support it, he said.

Jogi welcomed the introduction of the bill in the Lok Sabha and said it was because of the firm stand taken by the party that the introduction of the much-delayed bill became a reality.
