Jaswant Singh, Mahajan, Jagmohan sworn in
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today expanded his Council of Ministers with the addition of three ministers of Cabinet rank.
President K R Narayanan administered the oath of office and secrecy to Jaswant Singh, Jagmohan, and Pramod Mahajan at a function held in the Ashok Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
All three belong to the Bharatiya Janata Party, the dominant partner in the ruling coalition.
Vice-President Krishan Kant, Vajpayee and most of the Union ministers were present at the brief ceremony.
Jaswant Singh has been given the external affairs portfolio, Jagmohan has been given communications, and Mahajan, information and broadcasting.
Today's expansion is unique for having taken place while Parliament is in session.
There was some speculation about the re-induction of former I&B minister Sushma Swaraj, but that proved to be just idle talk.
