Child prodigies present Carnatic music in CD-ROM formCarnatic music is now available in CD-ROM form, in what is billed to the first time in the world, thanks to the efforts of two acclaimed child prodigies -- Sowmya and K N Shashikiran. Sowmya told newspersons in Madras on Monday that the CD-ROM has eight chapters, right from an introduction to the traditional music system, and includes a glossary with graphic illustrations in Sanskrit and comparisons with Western notations. Around 50 songs were being presented, she added. Shashikiran said even beginners could select the instruments through the use of a special programme. A chapter providing career opportunities in Carnatic music has also been included in the CD-ROM, he added. The package, he said, included comparisons with sculpture, philosophy, and mathematics, besides interactive exercises for Swara to the 35 ragas. Sowmya said comparisons had been made from the fourth century and till the present day, and details about the composer and language for 500 compositions were also provided in the compact disc. Explanations for more than 100 renowned artistes had been offered, she said, and added that the programme contained a quiz as well. She said it had been designed with visuals and easy commentaries to make the multimedia presentation more interesting for learners. UNI
