TMC rejects Moopanar's resignation, freezes merger issueContrary to speculation, the crucial executive committee meeting of the Tamil Maanila Congress today skirted the question of the party's merger with the Congress, while predictably rejecting party veteran G K Moopanar's offer of resignation as party president. A resolution on the continuance of Moopanar as TMC president was adopted by the executive which met in Thanjavur. It, however, accepted the resignations of district party presidents and empowered Moopanar to appoint the new presidents in their place. Moopanar's offer of resignation and the en masse resignation of district level leaders had come in the wake of the party's debacle in the general election. Moopanar said the meeting did not discuss the merger issue, adding that the TMC would continue as a constituent of the United Front. Also, week-long parleys to strengthen the TMC would be held with all sections of the partymen in Madras from April 10. UNI
