I went to watch Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii with no expectations as I've observed that in doing so, I end up getting disappointed. So I went with a clear mind. And I liked it. I found it cute.

This children's film is about Karan (Zain Khan) who lives in an orphanage run by John Kakkad (Rajesh Khera). At the orphanage, the kids have to do all work. Among the kids, there is a troublemaker called Raghav (Raj Bhansali).

One day somebody donates a box of old toys which is shared among the children. Raghav and Karan want a cricket bat, but Karan gets it, thanks to Bhola Dada (Susheel Parashar), the caretaker of the orphanage. Bhola Dada keeps on telling kids stories about 1983 World Cup and Kapil Dev [Images]. Karan is very fascinated by that and wants to become a cricketer.

Coincidently, there is a one-day match going on between India and Pakistan, with India on the verge of losing the series. Meanwhile, Karan finds out that his bat has magical powers, as every stroke hits the boundary.

That's when Indian cricket team coach (Vijay Crishna) notices him. Very soon he is in the Indian team and becomes the best batsman in the team, captained by Varun Roy (Rahul Bose [Images]).

The two batsmen, Varun and Karan share the same room and soon, become very good friends. In due course of the friendship, Karan finds out that Varun doesn't like his father (Naseer Abdullah). He tells Varun how unlucky he feels that he doesn't have parents and how lucky he is for having parents. Hearing this, he starts accepting his dad.

Meanwhile, India wins two matches with the help of Karan but on the final match, Karan's magical bat is destroyed. He then loses his confidence and is afraid to face the crowd. How he overcomes this fear is forms the rest of the movie.

Rahul Bose is good, but debutant Zain Khan steals the show. He is cute and likeable. Raj Bhansali is outstanding while Raju Khera is a good actor with bad makeup. Meera Vasudevan, as Bose's girlfriend, has very little to do. Coach Vijay Crishna and Naseer Abdullah are okay in their small roles.

The finale song and title track of the film is cool and rendered very well by Kunal Ganjawala. The video is eye-catching as well.

Though the orphanage angle is copied from Annie and Great Expectations, the cricket angle adds newness to the film. All in all, not a bad movie.
