It enjoyed a dream run at London's West End. Of course, composer A R Rahman's chartbusting tunes also contributed to its success.
Buoyed, the triumphant cast and crew of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Bombay Dreams will now head for New York's Broadway. This will be the first time that an Indian musical will play on Broadway.
The musical will have a press showing on March 28 and will release a month later. It stars Anisha Nagarajan, Manu Narayan and Ayesha Dharker among others.
Meanwhile, posters of the musical will soon be displayed all around New York City. Seen here are the poster boy (18-year-old newcomer Gerard Lobo) and poster girl (model-actress Pooja Kumar) of Bombay Dreams. Though they do not feature in the musical, they will be the 'faces' of the musical for all publicity and promotional purposes.
Pooja Kumar is a familiar face at Indian events in New York. The former Miss India-USA has worked in a couple of Tamil films, including Magic Magic (from the makers of India's first 3D film, Chota Chetan), apart from veejaying on Channel [V]'s BPL Oye.
Pooja will soon be seen in the witty comedy drama, Flavors (directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK). She recently won the SAG (Screen Actors' Guild) Emerging Actress Award for her work in Flavors.
