Aftab, Amisha: their love song hurts! Suno Sasurjee and other tunes

If romance doesn't work, comedy might.

After the dismal fate of Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai, Amisha Patel and Aftab Shivdasani come back in Suno Sasurjee, a comedy directed by Vimal Kumar. Completing the laugh brigade are Kader Khan, Gulshan Grover, Asrani and Shakti Kapoor.

The lyrics are by Sameer and the music by Sanjeev Darshan.

The album starts with Jab dil dhadakta hai by Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik. A fast-paced song whose promos are already being aired on Indian television.

Sonu Nigam tries his hand at some Punjabi style singing with Tota mirchi. He is accompanied by Alka Yagnik. The song is okay if you are not looking for too much logic or meaning. And Aap kaha rehte hai is a peppy song full of friendly banter between Abhijeet and Alka Yagnik

Saason se saasen by Babul Supriyo and Hema Sardesai and Mera Dil Churake by Kumar Sanu and Prabha are the mandatory filmi romantic songs of the album. The second one especially grates on your nerves.

In spite of a throaty rendition of Aaa jaa by Jaspinder Narula, the song doesn’t leave any impact.

Kardo kardo shaadi sasurjee is a fun-filled jugalbandi between a sasur (father-in-law) and his prospective damaad (son-in-law); sung by Sonu Nigam, Vinod Rathod, Sapna Mukherji and Arshad. It reminds you of Govinda's Dulhe Raja..

In fact, most of the album is reminiscent of previous Govinda comedies. The music on the whole is passable but there is nothing new to it. It is completely recycled and rehashed.

Sanjeev Darshan seems totally uninterested and uninspired while Sameer's lyrics lack freshness.

If we take the music as a parameter for the movie's success, Suno Sasurjee does not have much to look forward to.

Most new actresses coming into Bollywood today are making their debut against Fardeen Khan. The latest is Richa Pallod who stars against Khan in Kuch Tum Kaho Kuch Hum Kahein.

Directed by K Ravi Shankar, KTKKHK is a remake of the popular Telugu film Kalasivundham Raa.

The music score by Anu Malik is fresh and befits a love story. So are Sameer's lyrics. First on the album is Jab se dekha [khoye khoye] sung by Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik who sound good together. This song is the title track with the tune featuring in most the other songs.

Fardeen Khan joins the ranks of actors-turned-singers as he sings Aa ra raa ra raa along with Sonu Nigam. It is a fun-filled song sung interspersed with dialogues.

Next is Hua salaam dil ka, a romantic duet, sung by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik

The next side starts with Kuch tum kaho, a simple but sweet song sung beautifully by Hariharan.

Choori choori sung by Shaan, Prashant, Preeti-Pinky is a disappointment. The part sung by Preeti-Pinky sounds like an extension of Chori Chori Chupke Chupke.

Yeh kya majboori hai is the sad version of Jab se dekha [khoye khoye]. But the rendition is absolutely different with KK and Prashant adding a soulful, tragic touch to the love song.

As a grand finale Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan sing Tuhi hai, a vibrant racy number which can well make it to the countdown shows.

In an industry where love stories are made a dime a dozen, a good music score is an added advantage. In this department Kuch Tum Kaho Kuch Hum Kahein definitely scores.

Kehtaa Hai Dil Baar Baar is India's answer to the out-an-out comedy Meet The Parents. Jimmy Shergill is Hindi cinema's Ben Stiller and Paresh Rawal does Robert De Niro. Kim Sharma is the love interest.

Jatin Lalit tune Sameer's lyrics. The first side kicks off with Deewano ko pata hai sung by Udit Narayan and Sadhana Sargam and has a deja vu feel of Aye mere humsafar from Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Humko humise chura lo from Mohabattein.

Shaan renders his voice for the well-composed second track Aasmaan Se, but you cannot overlook the fact that it sounds like a blend of Meri aankhon mein from Bada Din and Deewana main chala from Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya.

Dhol baje is a hummable number by Udit Narayan and Kavita Subramaniam. The best song on the album is India se aaya by Adnan Sami. This will surely set a craze amongst the youth. One wonders why Lalit has sung another version of the same song.

Side B has Jaane kab anjaane --- a melodious track by Kavita Subramaniam and Kumar Sanu that falls into the category of the composer duo's acclaimed work like Khamoshi -- The Musical.

Follows Dikri amhari, a funky Gujju-Punju fusion number sung by Udit Narayan and Shraddha Pandit, whom we heard earlier in Khamoshi -- The Musical.

The last track is the instrumental, eminently avoidable Life is beautiful..

One peppy number. The rest are mediocre numbers. Nothing to write home about, here.
