Living for the moment
Tabu is, as Gulzar says, Tabu.
Hard to overlook, sensitive and a strong presence in all her films.
A devout Gulzar fan and camper, Tabu was perhaps the natural choice for director Meghna Gulzar to approach for the role of Rewa in
Filhaal.
Here, Tabu cautions Latika Sidana in an interview that Filhaal is not a women-oriented film:
How have you interpreted Filhaal?
The film kind of symbolises that life is very transient and unpredictable. And it is made up of successive moments. All you can do is live one moment at a time - there is no control over the next moment.
That is why it is called Filhaal.
What is the story of Filhaal?
It is about four individuals whose lives are inextricably linked with each other. And, contrary to what a lot of people think, it is not a woman-oriented story.
The male perspective is very apparent in this film. I think Meghna has done justice to the male viewpoint. You see, men are like catalysts in this story. One of the male leads is the Euphoria-singer, Palash Sen, who is also a doctor in real life The other is model-turned-actor Sanjay Suri.
You are very close to Gulzar. How close are you to his daughter?
Yes, I am very close to Gulzarsaab. His presence is very important in my life. But I only know Meghna through him.
I can tell you, however, that she will be recognised as a brilliant filmmaker.
