The government on Thursday decided to retain the 5000 hectares land ceiling on a special economic zone amid wide expectations of a review of the rules governing the land limit. The Empowered Group of Ministers took up only the operational issues for review without tinkering the SEZ policy backed by a law.
"There is no policy change," Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath said after the meeting of EGOM headed by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
The operational issues requiring clarity included the definition of vacant land and movement of goods from domestic tariff area to SEZs.
