Diversified equity funds put in a smart performance despite a downward trend in equity markets over the week. Taurus Starshare (4.10 per cent) stole the limelight from well-established funds like HDFC Top 200 (1.92 per cent) and HDFC Capital Builder (1.85 per cent), which featured third and fourth in the rankings respectively. As a matter of fact it was a bumper week for HDFC Mutual Fund as three of its equity funds featured in the weekly rankings.

Large cap funds like HSBC Equity (0.64 per cnt) and Franklin Bluechip (-0.74 per cent) had contrasting weeks. Mid cap funds - Sundaram Select Midcap (1.51 per cent), Franklin Prima Fund (1.21 per cent) and Magnum Global Fund (1.13 per cent) had a good week considering the decline in the CNX Mid Cap index.

So it's a whole new tax-saving scenario for the investor. This is where Personalfn comes in. The 2006 guide to Tax Planning has a view on each tax-saving instrument right from PPF, NSC to tax-saving mutual funds and life insurance.
