Sensex up 39 points at close

The Sensex gained 39 points to close at 5,930. The Nifty ended 11 points higher at 1,863.
Infosys rallied over 2% (Rs 42) to Rs 2,018, following news that the board approved sponsoring a Secondary ADS Offering to its existing shareholders in India. While Wipro ended a rupee higher at Rs 688, Satyam slipped Rs 2 to Rs 390.
HLL surged 2.5% (Rs 3) to Rs 136. Reliance gained Rs 3 at Rs 543, and ITC dropped Rs 3 to Rs 1,125.
ONGC soared 2% (Rs 17) to Rs 823. HPCL slipped 1.8% (Rs 6) to Rs 336.
HDFC Bank zoomed 4.5% (Rs 19) to Rs 452. SBI and ICICI Bank declined Rs 2 each to Rs 496 and Rs 317, respectively.
HDFC moved up 1.6% (Rs 11) to Rs 679 following the announcement of 0.5% hike in home loan rates post Diwali.
Tisco spurted 1.4% (Rs 4) to Rs 302. Hindalco moved up Rs 6 to Rs 1,286.
Larsen & Toubro added 1.4% (Rs 11) to Rs 853. Bhel, however, declined Rs 4 to Rs 630.
Ranbaxy dropped 2.5% (Rs 29) to Rs 1,122, owing to the news that Schwarz Pharma has discontinued the development of Ranbaxy Laboratories' RBx 2258 molecule. Dr.Reddy's gained Rs 6 at Rs 780, and Cipla is down Rs 2 at Rs 273.
Tata Motors and Hero Honda zoomed 2% each to Rs 430 and Rs 435, respectively. Bajaj Auto rallied 1.5% (Rs 15) to Rs 986. Maruti, however, ended Rs 2 lower at Rs 377.
Grasim shed 2% (Rs 23) to Rs 1,137. While Gujarat Ambuja was up Rs 2 at Rs 348, ACC was down Rs 2 to Rs 261.
The BSE Auto, TECk, FMCG and Metal indices posted smart gains at 2,396, 1,585, 947 and 5,126, respectively. While the BSE BANKEX and PSU index were marginally up at 2,949 and 3,824, respectively, the BSE Health Care index slipped 0.7% to 2,670.
