Sensex drops 20 points at close

The markets on Wednesday opened with a positive gap of 14 points at 5,116. After an initial phase of buying, the Sensex turned weak towards the mid-morning deals.
Volatile trades in the afternoon session saw the index touching an intra-day high of 5,164 and an intra-day low of 5,049 as well.
The Sensex finally ended the day with a loss of 20 points at 5,082. The Nifty ended 7 points lower at 1,599.
Reliance ended with a marginal gain of Rs 3 at Rs 459. While ITC dropped 4% (Rs 36) to Rs 888, HLL shed 2.4% (Rs 4) to Rs 138.
Wipro dropped 2% (Rs 33) to Rs 1,587. Infosys was down 1.3% (Rs 71) at Rs 5,288. Satyam was down marginally at Rs 322.
BHEL zoomed 5.5% (Rs 25) to Rs 483.50. HPCL was up nearly 2% (Rs 5.50) to Rs 326. MTNL was down 1.6% (Rs 2) at Rs 122.50. ONGC dropped nearly 3% (Rs 19) to Rs 712. SBI was also down a percent at Rs 533.
Bharti Tele-Ventures was up 3.4% (Rs 5) at Rs 155. HDFC gained 1.5% (Rs 8.50) to Rs 574.50. Hindalco dropped nearly 2.4% (Rs 23) to Rs 939.
ICICI Bank ended nearly 2% higher at Rs 263.
The pharma and auto scrips ended on a mixed note.
