May 11, 2004 19:05 IST

In a move expected to promote tourism and give a boost to the economy of the militancy-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir, Air Sahara will begin its daily operations between Delhi and Srinagar on Wednesday.

The direct flight between Delhi and Srinagar will leave everyday at 1120 hours and return at 1430 hours, an Air Sahara spokesman said in New Delhi.

"The connectivity provided by Air Sahara's flight to Srinagar will promote tourism in the state and strengthen the economy of the state," Uttam Kumar Bose, chief executive officer of Air Sahara, said.

Speaking on the occasion, Alok Sharma, vice president, strategy and operations, Air Sahara, said: "We are executing a strategy of connecting the smaller destination with the major cities in the country to promote all round development in the tourism sector.

"Srinagar proves to be an ideal sector as there is resurgence in the tourism scenario and tourist inflow to the sector is increasing," Sharma said.
