Naidu's exit not to hit IT: Nasscom

A Correspondent in Mumbai | May 11, 2004 17:13 IST

Information technology companies and executives are quite nervous about Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu's dramatic ouster in Andhra Pradesh.

Many feel that IT may he hit hard with the logging out of Naidu as investors may decide to keep away following the defeat of an investor-friendly government in Andhra Pradesh.

However, the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) says that the exit of Naidu may not hit the IT sector.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Nasscom President Kiran Karnik said:

"In the wake of the defeat of the Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh, we do not foresee any adverse impact on the information technology industry.

"Naidu has done an excellent job of developing Andhra Pradesh and Hyderabad, in particular, as an attractive IT destination. He has played an important role in promoting not only Andhra Pradesh but the whole IT industry.

"He helped to create an enabling environment for the industry to flourish in India and has endeavoured to put information technology to use for providing better quality of governance.

"In our experience of working with different states, irrespective of the political party/parties in power, we have always received strong support and seen great enthusiasm to promote IT.

"We have had such positive responses across the political spectrum, and we are confident that the industry will continue to receive the same support in future as well, from all political parties.

"We are certain that the new government in Andhra Pradesh will continue its strong promotion of the IT industry, and Nasscom looks forward to working closely with them."
