To tap India's software talent, global sourcing solutions major FreeMarkets is planning to add up to 25 engineers at its Gurgaon product developement centre in the next one year besides moving key product development to India.

"We will add 20-25 software professionals in our Gurgaon development centre in the next one year", Prashant Dohlakia, senior vice president, FreeMarkets, told PTI, adding all the FreeMarkets' products would have some components developed in the Gurgaon centre over a period of time.

At present, the centre has a total strength of 85 people, out of which 25 are engineers.

"We expect more development to take place at the India development centre and in the offing are solutions in the space of contract management and additional features on enterprise sourcing platform like security and usability. We expect all these developments to take place partly or fully at the Gurgaon centre," he said.

The Supplier Implementation product was entirely developed in India while SpendVisibility and Enterprise Sourcing were partly developed here, he added.

Dohlakia said India is strategic to FreeMarkets' global perspective from both sales and product development aspects.

"We expect our India revenues to grow by 40 per cent in the next one year and have more demand coming from the automotive and FMCG sectors," he said.

FreeMarkets India has 20 corporate houses as its customers, including Tata Motors, TVS Motors, Singhanias, Spic, Murugappa, Dabur, Nestle and Heinz.

Dohlakia declined to give revenue figures from India.

"Over the last three years, we have done sourcing for Indian companies to the tune of Rs 6,000 crore (Rs 60 billion) and last year alone, we did sourcing worth Rs 3,000 crore (Rs 30 billion)," he said.

FreeMarkets prepares the groundwork for the reverse auction, draws up a detailed RFQ (requests for quotations) and informs possible suppliers.
