March 03, 2004 15:50 IST
Brushing aside apprehensions that the business process outsourcing backlash is likely to hit India's information technology exports, the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday said the country's IT industry is slated to grow by 26 per cent this year driven by strong economic performance.
The Indian IT-enabled services sector is poised to grow by 51 per cent, the chamber said.
Assocham said: "The offshore BPO sector in India will continue to grow very strongly."
India will be one of the leading IT markets of Asia Pacific and the country along with China and South Korea would account for 80 per cent of the revenues for Asia in 2004, it added.
The global IT market is set to grow by over 3 per cent in 2004 underpinned by reduced geo-political uncertainties, growing signs of pick up in investment in the United States, Japan and other emerging markets, the chamber said.
