Management guru Jagadish Seth on Saturday urged the business leadership of the country to take charge of motivating the government to pursue policies that would lead to a prosperous India.

According to him, India could emerge as the third largest economy in the near future, after United States and China.

The management guru was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Future Business School in the city yesterday.

Seth said groups, with a presence in a large number of businesses, should consolidate and concentrate only on those areas in which they could be market leaders.

Citing example of a large group that was into steel, telecom, software, hotels and a host of other segments and was also into cement till sometime back, he said he had advised exit from most of the businesses except for five or six.

"It is difficult to compete with different set of competitors in different segments of business. MNCs like Hindustan Lever, and Procter & Gamble compete with a small set of large competitors in every market they operate in," he added.

Other prominent speakers who were present at the session were Bengal Chamber president Biswadip Gupta, economist Pradip Kakkar, Sunil Sood, Ashok Thakur and Mousumi Ghosh.

The MBA programme of Future Institute of Engineering and Management Kolkata has received AICTE approval.

The institute was set up by a group of academicians and professionals with engineering and management background.

The institute aims to become an integrated centre for education, training, research and consultancy.
