VAT to be implemented from April 1, 2005

The Value Added Tax will be implemented nationwide from April 1, 2005, said Finance Minister P Chidambaram while presenting the Union Budget for 2004-05 in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. A compensation formula for any loss of revenue to states with the introduction of VAT will be worked out, he said.
