Sensex gains 6pts; Reliance up 1.8%

The Sensex closed at 5,192, up 6 points. The Nifty was up 2 points at 1,630.
Reliance gained 1.8% (Rs 8) at Rs 476. Late buying at the ITC counter saw the scrip close marginally higher at Rs 1,047. HLL, however, ended unchanged at Rs 112.
While Satyam closed a tad higher at Rs 340, Wipro ended a bit lower at Rs 579, Infosys, however, was flat at Rs 1,575.
Bharti Tele was the sole significant gainer among the Sensex stocks. It closed 3% (Rs 4) higher at Rs 140. Auto stocks witnessed profit-taking after yesterday's significant rally. Pharma stocks ended on a weak note.
Sensex @ 1450 hrs
The market is lacklusture with most of the stocks stuck in a very narrow range. The Sensex has now moved into positive zone and is now up a point at 5,187. The Nifty is at 1,631 - up three points.
Reliance has moved up 1.7% (Rs 8) to Rs 475. While Hindalco is down Rs 7 at Rs 1,173, Tisco has rebounded into positive zone and is up a rupee at Rs 251. Zee has shed Rs 2 to Rs 152.
Bharti Tele has rallied 3% to Rs 140. The BSE BANKEX and Health Care index are marginally down at 2,535 and 2,288, respectively. The BSE TECk and FMCG Gas indices are almost flat at 1,342 and 847 respectively.
SAIL leads the volume chart on the BSE, and the counter has clocked a volume of around 1.19 crore shares. IDBI (26.68 lakh), Arvind Mills (21.84 lakh), Alok Inds (21.65 lakh) and Tisco (21 lakh) and have also logged good volume. Reliance tops the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs 92.83 crore. It is followed by TCS (Rs 88.82 crore), Maruti (Rs 62.24 crore), Tisco (Rs 52.52 crore) and SAIL (Rs 47.73 crore).
Sensex @ 1410 hrs
The Sensex continues to move in a narrow range, and is now down 2 points at 5,184. The Nifty has bounced into positive zone and is up a point at 1,629.
Pharma scrips are witnessing fresh selling pressure. Cipla has dropped 1.7% (Rs 4) to Rs 237. Ranbaxy is down Rs 8 at Rs 958, and Dr.Reddy's is marginally down at Rs 706. Reliance is firm at Rs 474. ITC and HLL are steady at Rs 1,041 and Rs 112, respectively.
Infosys and Satyam are still holding marginal gains at Rs 1,582 and Rs 340, respectively. Wipro, however, is down Rs 2 at Rs 578. Hindalco and Tisco have pared some losses and are now at Rs 1,168 (down Rs 11) and Rs 249 (down Re 1), respectively.
While Bajaj Auto has pared some gains and is up Rs 5 at Rs 935, Hero Honda, Maruti and Tata Power continue to languish at Rs 444, Rs 379 and Rs 387, respectively. Reliance Energy has shed 2% (Rs 13) to Rs 646. Tata Power is down a per cent at Rs 259.
Bharti Tele has moved up Rs 3 to Rs 139, but Zee continues to languish at Rs 153. Kochi Refinery has soared 9% (Rs 15) to Rs 182. Century Textiles, ING Vysya Bank, Apollo Hospitals, FDC, Exide, Rolta, Ballarpur Inds, Century Enka, D-Link India, Adani Exports, Wyeth, Alok Inds, Ingersoll Rand, CESC, SKF India, Ramco Systems, Micro Inks and Indian Hotels are up 3-7% each.
Titan, Vijaya Bank, Wockhardt Life, Crompton Greaves, IPCA Labs, Neyveli Lignite, Videocon Intl, ABB, Tata Elxsi, Colgate, Escorts, Gillette India, Thermax, Tata Chemicals and Allahabad Bank - down 1-3% each.
Sensex @ 1346
The Sensex is down 10 points at 5,176. The Nifty is down 3 points at 1,625.
Reliance, HLL and ITC are still steady at Rs 473, Rs 112 and Rs 1,040, respectively.
While Infosys and Satyam are holding marginal gains at Rs 1,580 and Rs 340, respectively, Wipro has slipped into negative zone and is down a rupee at Rs 579.
Sensex @ 1300 hrs
The Sensex is steady at 5,182, down 4 points. The Nifty is at 1,626, down 2 points.
Reliance has extended gains and is now up 1.3% (Rs 6) at Rs 473. ITC and HLL are lacklusture at Rs 1,038 and Rs 112, respectively.
Infosys, Satyam and Wipro are holding gains at Rs 1,583, Rs 340 and Rs 581, respectively.
Reliance Energy is down Rs 9 at Rs 650, and Tata Power is down Rs 3 at Rs 258.
Bhel has shed Rs 5 to Rs 553.
Banking and metal stocks continue to languish at lower levels.
The BSE BANKEX and Metal index are languishing at lower levels of 2,525 and 4,337, respectively. The BSE TECk and Oil & Gas indices have moved up to 1,344 and 2,673, respectively.
SAIL leads the volume chart on the BSE, and the counter has clocked a volume of around 31.28 lakh shares so far. IDBI (24.25 lakh), Alok Inds (17.09 lakh), Reliance (14.74 lakh) and Arvind Mills (13.08 lakh) have also logged good volume.
Reliance tops the value chart with a turnover of Rs 69.57 crore so far on the BSE. It is followed by TCS (Rs 61.79 crore), Maruti (Rs 43.99 crore), Tata Motors (Rs 28.21 crore) and Tisco (Rs 23.37 crore).
Sensex @ 1230
The Sensex is at 5,178, 8 points. The Nifty is down 2 points at 1,626.
Software stocks are witnessing fresh buying. Infosys is up Rs 10 at Rs 1,586. Satyam has gained Rs 3 at Rs 341, and Wipro is marginally up at Rs 582.
Banking stocks have extended losses. While SBI is down 1.4% (Rs 6) at Rs 439, ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank have shed a per cent each at Rs 269 and Rs 367, respectively.
Auto scrips are exhibiting mixed trend. Bajaj Auto has bounced into positive zone and is up Rs 8 at Rs 938. However, Hero Hondo has declined 1.7% (Rs 7) to Rs 442.
Tata Motors and Maruti are also in negative zones at Rs 386 and Rs 378, respectively.
Sensex @ 1200 hrs
Fresh buying is software and select stocks saw the Sensex pare some losses. The index is now down 9 points at 5,177. The Nifty is at 1,626, down 2 points.
Reliance, ITC and HLL are steady at Rs 473, Rs 1,039 and Rs 112, respectively.
Infosys, Satyam and Wipro have posted marginal gains at Rs 1,583, Rs 340 and Rs 581, respectively.
Hindalco and Tisco have extended losses and are now down 1.5% each at Rs 1,161 and Rs 246, respectively.
Hero Honda and Maruti have slipped over a per cent each to Rs 444 and Rs 376, respectively.
Ranbaxy has declined over a per cent (Rs 11) to Rs 956. Reliance Energy, Tata Power and Zee continue to langusih at lower levels of Rs 650, Rs 259 and Rs 153, respectively.
Kochi Refinery has soared over 8% (Rs 14) to Rs 181. Alok Inds, Century Enka, Rolta, Engineers India, Apollo Hospitals, Exide, Ramco Systems, Century Textiles, Chambal Fert, Wyeth, Raymond, FDC, CESC, ING Vysya Bank and Sterlite Optical have gained 3-6% each.
Mirc Electronics, Gillette India, Videocon Intl, Tata Elxsi, Jindal Iron & Steel, Titan, Birla Corp, Wockhardt Life, Crompton Greaves, Vijaya Bank, Container Corp, Escorts, Union Bank, Canara Bank and Neyveli Lignite are down 1-3% each.
Sensex @ 1100 hrs
A fresh bout of selling pushed the Sensex back into negative zone to a low of 5,156. The index is now at 5,168, down 18 points. The Nifty has declined 4 points at 1,624.
Reliance is up Rs 4 at Rs 471. While ITC has shed Rs 5 to Rs 1,036, HLL is steady at Rs 112.
Infosys and Wipro are marginally down at Rs 1,570 and Rs 575, respectively. Satyam, however, is flat at Rs 339.
SBI has declined 1.5% (Rs 7) to Rs 439. ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank are also in negative zones at Rs 269 and Rs 368, respectively.
Hindalco and Tisco have dropped over a per cent each to Rs 1,164 and Rs 247, respectively.
Reliance Energy and Tata Power have tripped over a per cent each to Rs 650 and Rs 258, respectively.
Auto stocks are witnessing profit-taking after Monday's rally. Bajaj Auto and Hero Honda have declined Rs 4 each to Rs 926 and Rs 446, respectively.
Maruti and Tata Motors are also in negative zones at Rs 379 and Rs 386, respectively. ACC, Grasim and Gujarat Ambuja have shed early morning gains and are now trading lower at Rs 268, Rs 1,115 and Rs 324, respectively.
While Ranbaxy has declined Rs 7 to Rs 960, and Dr.Reddy's is down Rs 4 at Rs 704, Cipla, however, is a tad higher at Rs 242. The BSE BANKEX and Metal index are down a per cent each to 2,519 and 4,316, respectively. The BSE TECk index is tad lower at 1,336.
Sensex at 1010 hrs
The Sensex opened a tad higher at 5,192, up 6 points, and then slipped into negative zone. The index is now at 5,180, down 6 points. The Nifty is down a point at 1,627.
Reliance is up a per cent at Rs 472. HLL and ITC are flat at Rs 112 and Rs 1,038, respectively.
Software stocks are marginally weak. Hindalco is down a per cent at Rs 1,168, and Bharti Tele is up Rs 2 at Rs 138.
