Sensex drops 45 points at close

The Sensex on Thursday opened with a loss of three points at 5,710.
Intense selling pressure in the afternoon session saw the index dip to an intra-day low of 5,626. The Sensex, however, pared some losses towards the end to finish with a loss of 45 points at 5,668. The Nifty ended seven points lower at 1,809.
Reliance was down 2% (Rs 11) at Rs 529. HLL closed with a loss of 1% at Rs 144.
ITC moved up 1% (Rs 12) to end the day at Rs 1067.
Infosys dropped 1% (Rs 54) to Rs 5,044. While Satyam was up a per cent (Rs 2) at Rs 319, Wipro ended marginally higher at Rs 1,529.
ONGC was up a per cent at Rs 845. SBI gained marginally to Rs 639. While HPCL dropped 3.4% to Rs 457, BHEL was down a per cent at Rs 583.50.
Grasim zoomed 3.4% (Rs 40) to Rs 1237.50. ACC, Gujarat Ambuja were up 2% each at Rs 275 and Rs 331, respectively. L&T, however, tanked 4.6% (Rs 27) to Rs 559.
Cipla gained 2% (Rs 30) to Rs 1348, Ranbaxy was up nearly a per cent (Rs 8) at Rs 1,069. Dr.Reddy's dropped 4% (Rs 38) to Rs 865.
Hindalco was a big loser among the Sensex stocks as it tanked 5.5% (Rs 67) to Rs 1,135. HDFC was down 2% (Rs 12) to Rs 600, but HDFC Bank ended marginally higher at Rs 382.
Bharti Tele-Ventures gained 2% (Rs 4) to Rs 171. Reliance Energy was down 2% (Rs 11) to Rs 529.
Tisco dropped 4% (Rs 16) to Rs 368. While Tata Motors ended 1.4% lower at Rs 478.50, Tata Power was unchanged at Rs 385.
IBP zoomed nearly 6% (Rs 33.50) to Rs 623. FACT (up 5% to Rs 28), Neyveli Lignite (up 3% to Rs 63.50) and Kochi Refineries (up 2.5% to Rs 207) also moved up.
