Bharti FY04 net zooms to Rs 619 crore

Sunil Mittal-promoted Bharti Group on Friday announced a net profit of Rs 619 crore (Rs 6.19 billion) during the 2003-04 fiscal as against a loss of Rs 134 crore (Rs 1.34 billion) in the previous fiscal.

The company said the turnover of Bharti Televentures, the service arm of Bharti Group, registered a growth of 64 per cent at Rs 5,002 crore (Rs 50.02 billion) in 2003-04 compared to Rs 3,050 crore (Rs 30.50 billion) in 2002-03.

Bharti, which offers mobile services under the brand name AirTel, has a footprint virtually across the whole country.

It is also one of the largest integrated telecom players offering a variety of services including basic, cellular, domestic long distance (STD) and international long distance
(ISD).

During the fourth quarter, Bharti's net profit clocked a growth of 54 per cent at Rs 304 crore (Rs 3,040 million) for the period January-March 2004 as against Rs 70 crore (Rs 700 million) during the same period the previous year.

The turnover during the fourth quarter stood at Rs 1,553 crore (Rs 15.53 billion) as against Rs 1,007 crore (Rs 10.07 billion).
