September 18, 2003 19:07 IST

Marking its first international presence, software industry association Nasscom on Thursday announced the opening of its United Kingdom chapter aimed at becoming the one-point contact for UK companies planning to outsource their IT services to India.

This is the first formal presence of Nasscom internationally, a Nasscom release said, adding that the UK chapter would be based at the office of public relations and affairs company, Hill and Knowlton.

The chapter aims to serve as the voice of Nasscom in UK and adjoining region, raise awareness about Indian IT industry advantages and image and serve as a gateway to other European countries.

It will work closely with Indian embassy, missions based in UK to resolve issues and concerns relating to the industry.

It will also organise events and interactive networking forums. The chapter will also act as a catalyst for Indian companies looking to set up offices in UK.

"With the globalisation of the Indian software and service industry, there was increased realisation to have Nasscom's presence in UK," Kiran Karnik, president, Nasscom said.

UK contributes 14 per cent software services revenue.
