The United States-based publishing software firm Adobe on Tuesday said it will add 100 professionals for its research and development activities in India in the next one year.

"We will add a minimum of 100 professionals to our Noida based R&D centre in an year's time, to the existing 220 people," Bruce Chizen, CEO of Adobe, said after a meeting with IT and Communications Minister Arun Shourie, in New Delhi.

Chizen, who is on a three-day visit to the country to take stock of the Indian operations, said that the company was also in the process of constructing a new building in its existing campus which will be completed by the end of next year.

"This will have a capacity of 370 people which brings us close to 800 people over the next few years," Chizen added.

During his meeting with communications minister, Chizen discussed the e-governance initiatives.

"We talked about the e-governance initiatives, and how we, through our software, could play a role in making the Indian government more efficient," he said.

In addition, Chizen also discussed the investments that Adobe has made in the country, and how "it planned to continue channelising more investments in the country including our new initiatives of constructing a new building."

Earlier in the day, Chizen also visited Adobe's Noida R&D centre.

The Adobe CEO would address Nasscom Leadership Summit for CEOs in Bangalore on Wednesday and the following day he will be in Mumbai meeting customers, besides an exclusive meeting with a top IT company which is also a customer, sources said.

Although the agenda of Chizen's visit has not been disclosed, sources said that it would be primarily a customers interaction meeting apart from taking stock of the Indian operations.

In 2000, Adobe had announced an investment of $50 million over a period of five years for India.
