Tata Teleservices has applied for acquiring new licences in seven states including West Bengal, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh under the new unified licence regime.
"We have applied for fresh licences in seven circles last night... for the existing licences the company is planning to apply for migration to the new regime," Ashok Sud, chief regulatory officer, Tata Teleservices, told PTI in New Delhi.
Seven states for which the company has applied are West Bengal, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh (East). The company is currently operating in six states: Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
Tata Teleservices has also acquired letter of intent for basic licence for four circles of Uttar Pradesh (West), Haryana, Punjab and Kerala, he said, adding that final decision with regard to these LoIs is yet to be taken.
"We have firmed up our plans to expand our operations in the above mentioned 17 circles," he said.
Asked what would be the total entry fee under the new regime, Sud said it would be as per the final notification of department of telecom.
Last week, Tatas had applied for basic service licence in these seven circles, which were subsequently withdrawn after unified access services licence regime came into effect, and the company applied for new licences on Wednesday.
Reliance Infocomm has already paid Rs 1,542 crore (Rs 15.42 billion) to DoT to migrate to the new regime to become eligible for offering full mobility on its WLL phones.
