Jaitley assures help to exporters
November 10, 2003 18:53 IST
Commerce Minister Arun Jaitley will take up with Finance Minister Jaswant Singh the issue of hardening rupee and its impact on exports to ensure that growth is sustained without exporters having to curtail their profit margins.
This was indicated by Jaitley at a meeting with chairpersons of export promotion councils under the aegis of Federation of Indian Export Promotion Organisation on Friday, an official release said in New Delhi on Monday.
Exporters have asked the government to make available licence on incremental turnover in the same year itself, saying it would decrease the input cost of SSI units.
They have sought restoration of Section 80 HHC giving 100 per cent exemption of export profit.
Freight subsidy scheme may be introduced wherein 50 per cent of the freight is reimbursed if the freight value is two per cent of the freight on board value of exports, they have suggested.
Exporters have also asked the government to ask the Reserve Bank of India to give directive to banks to meet their requirements of foreign currency first and then extend to corporates, the release said.
