The CII CEOs mission to the UK - beginning on Monday - would discuss the possible changes in the work permit rules in the IT sector in that country to expand the scope of professionals from India and other countries.

The Professional Contractors Group has recommended changes, which if implemented, would work as non-trade barrier and adversely affect Indian companies doing business in the UK, as these companies would not be allowed to bring in employees from India or other countries, CII said in a statement in New Delhi on Monday.

According to the PCG, the local job market should be tapped first and in case the skills needed were not found, then employees could be brought from outside.

The ITCE sector panel has asked the Indian government to conclude a totalisation agreement with the UK government for the avoidance of dual social security contributions.

The agreement would provide exemption from the contributions to the national insurance for a period greater than the existing 52 weeks.

The 16-member CII delegation is being led by the CII president Anand Mahindra and co-led by the chief mentor, Infosys Technologies, NR Narayana Murthy.

The delegation will meet the senior representatives of the UK administration and business leaders in London to discuss the way forward for strengthening the bilateral trade and investment relations.
