Philips NV of Netherlands is looking at India for locating its global Business Process Outsourcing centre, the finance director of Philips India, Bruce Inglis, said.
He said the issue was in a discussion stage with key managerial personnel of Philips worldwide, and is likely that the centre might be located in India as the country was important in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Indian subsidiary, in which the Dutch parent holds 93 per cent, has its national shared service centre or SSC located in Kolkata from where the entire financial accounting job of the company is carried out.
Asked whether the global centre would also be located in Kolkata, Inglis said the company was looking at all possible places in the country.
He said the centre would be made scalable, adding that the employment potential would be around 300 to 400.
The managing director of Philips India, K Ramchandran, said a concerted effort was being made to make the company a centre of competence for software development and export of finished products across all product lines.
