A-I, IA proposed selloff under review

February 20, 2003 14:22 IST

The proposed divestment of Air-India and Indian Airlines is being reviewed at the inter-ministerial level, Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday.

To Manoj Bhattacharya's question on whether the government had decided to reverse the scheme of divestment in these two airlines, Divestment Minister Arun Shourie said in a written reply: "The proposed divestment of the two airlines is a subject of inter-ministerial review at the present time."

He said withdrawal of bidders and depressed conditions in aviation sector after The September 11 terrorist attacks led the government to review divestment of the two airlines.

Shourie also assured the House that likely adverse impact on the developmental programmes of these two airlines on account of prolonged uncertainty will be borne in mind while arriving at a decision on the matter.
