Kumar Birla is 'Businessman of the Year'

Business India has selected Aditya Birla Group chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla as the 'Businessman of the Year', who at the age of 36 becomes the youngest businessman to receive the award.

The turnover of the Aditya Birla group, one of India's largest business houses, rose to Rs 27,000 crore (Rs 270 billion) from Rs 7,200 crore (Rs 72 billion) in eight years under Kumar Mangalam's leadership, Business India said in a release in Mumbai on Monday.

The group's major companies are Grasim, Hindalco, Indian Rayon, Indo Gulf and Indal, while joint ventures include Idea Cellular (Birla-Tata-AT&T) in telecom, Birla Sunlife in financial services and Birla NGK in insulators.
