December 03, 2003 12:06 IST
British Airways on Wednesday introduced its third weekly non-stop flight between Kolkata and London to meet the growing customer demand in the region and promote tourism in both the countries.
BA, which operated so far two flights on Friday and Sunday, would now operate its third flight on Wednesday, Andy Stern, general manager, South Asia, BA, said in Kolkata.
The new flight would arrive in Kolkata at 8.35 am and leave for London Heathrow at 10.35 am, he said.
The existing two flights reach the N S C Bose International Airport at 4.35 am and leave for London Heathrow at 7.10 am.
The new BA flight arrived at the NSC Bose International Airport on Wednesday a little after the scheduled 0835 hours from London due to fog and left on its return journey a little after 1035 with nearly 100 passengers on board.
Stern, who left for London by the new flight, said the air travel market between the two countries would continue to grow rapidly. With the resumption of the third flight BA will operate 19 flights per week to India.
The airline would now operate Boeing-777 aircraft on all the three days instead of the current Boeing-747 to increase the number of seats on the route, he said.
