Tata Teleservices Ltd has launched a new scheme for its shareholders.
"The main priority of the new scheme, Tata Shareholder Privileges, is to share our success with our shareholders, and to reward them for investing in our company," Jagrut Vyas, chief operating officer of Tata Teleservices Ltd, said.
Under the Tata Privileges offer, shareholders can now go mobile with Tata Indicom without paying any upfront charges. Shareholders can also choose from a range of latest 3G-1x technology enabled handsets.
Besides other features, subscribers of Tata Indicom will also be able to make calls to the US, Canada and Europe for only Rs 6 per minute, instead of Rs 15-16.
Vyas welcomed the Telecom Dispute Settlement Authority Tribunal's judgement permitting basic operators to offer WLL services.
"We are happy with the TDSAT judgement, which confirms WLL mobility as a legal telecom service. The decision will clear all uncertainties regarding the issue," Vyas said.
"We will now wait for the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's interpretation. Till then, I cannot make further comments," he said.
Meanwhile, Tata Indicom has launched two services besides CDMA, namely Fixed Wireless Telephone and Fixed Wireline.
The company now is present in 114 towns across India, including 11 in Gujarat. The company has invested Rs 300 crore (Rs 3 billion) in Gujarat so far. This is likely to jump to Rs 1,000 crore (Rs 10 billion) in near future, Vyas claimed.
Incidentally, Tata Indicom has also entered the PCO business. The company operates almost 500 PCOs in Vadodara and 3,000 PCOs all over Gujarat.
When asked about his plans for Vadodara, Vyas said the company was targeting the whole of Gujarat and not one particular city.
Vyas also brushed aside the threat from Reliance Industries, the company's main competitor in Gujarat, and expressed confidence in his company's ability to capture the market soon.
