Reliance insures WLL phones with NIC

April 22, 2003 16:27 IST

Reliance Infocomm has insured all its WLL-based mobile phones with National Insurance Company initially for a premium of about Rs 25 crore, official sources said on Tuesday.

"Reliance has insured the WLL phones with NIC for Rs 25 crore. The premium amount would go up depending on the number of subscribers," NIC officials told PTI in New Delhi.

According to the scheme, the insurance company would pay for any technical snag or damage to the WLL-phones of Reliance Infocomm.

The company had sourced the WLL phones from two electronic majors -- LG and Samsung.

Reliance Infocomm has offered a range of facilities including free insurance for the handsets, free incoming calls, SMS and internet for its WLL-based India Mobile project slated to start shortly.

"NIC has on an aggregate covered risks for Reliance Industries petrochem, telecom and other sectors for a premium of Rs 100 crore (Rs 1 billion)," the officials said.

The PSU insurer has a share of 8-9 per cent in the total risk cover for Jamnagar refinery of Reliance Industries.
