Arrest of i-flex executive over-reaction: Premji

April 05, 2003 15:21 IST

Wipro Chairman Azim Premji on Friday described as 'over-reaction to a short-term situation' the recent arrest in London of a senior executive of i-flex's Dutch subsidiary and other cases of alleged harassment of Indian software workers.

The action against Indian software workers was the result of unease among local communities in some countries about job losses, he felt.

Asked if the arrest of the CEO of the Dutch subsidiary of i-flex Solutions on the charges of visa violation was indicative of lax values in successful new generation companies, he said nothing incriminating against the Indian software industry had been proven so far.

Premji was delivering the keynote address on 'Values and Principles- The Role Of A Leader' at a conference organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry in Bangalore.

The Wipro chief also complimented the Union government and various industry bodies for sticking their necks out and moving swiftly to deal with situations arising out of the maltreatment of Indian software professionals.
