CPM to appeal to President not to approve FDI in printAnand Mohan Sahay in Patna The Communist Party of India-Marxist will to appeal the President of India not to approve the National Democratic Alliance's decision of allowing 26 percent foreign direct investment in the news and current affairs segment in the Indian media and 74 per cent in the non-news, non-current affairs segment. The CPM Politburo member Sitaram Yechuri said on Tuesday in Patna that the CPI(M) along with the like minded parties opposing the 26 per cent FDI in print media would meet the President of India soon to appeal him not to approve the government decision . "It is a dangerous policy decision taken by the Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government" CPM leader Yechuri said. He said that CPM condemned the government decision because it is against parliamentary norms. Yechuri told rediff.com: "Our real fight would be in Parliament where we will exposed this government. We will oppose this decision from the streets to Parliament." He said that it is surprising that Vajpayee government took the decision to allow 26 percent FDI in print media against the recommendations made by the Parliamentary standing committee. The Parliamentary standing committee was headed by the CPM MP Somnath Chatterjee who strongly recommended no FDI in print media. "The decision has violated the recommendation of the standing committee which was against the FDI in print media," he said. ALSO READ:
