Russia may buy Indian computers for schools

Russia is considering buying computers from India for use in its schools, an Indian government statement said on Wednesday.

The statement quoted Russian communications minister L Reyman as saying his country would soon send a proposal for purchasing computers from India.

Reyman, who is visiting India as part of a delegation accompanying Russian President Vladimir Putin, met Indian Information Technology Minister Pramod Mahajan on Tuesday to discuss bilateral co-operation in the IT sector.

The statement said the two ministers identified key areas of co-operation in certification of electronics and IT products, communication and network technologies including the Internet and high performance computing systems and their applications.

"Both ministers acknowledged that it was strategically important to build the volume of trade in IT by promoting business-to-business linkages between entrepreneurs of both countries," the statement added.

The two countries will also share models and experiences between official departments on electronic governance, it said.
