Mori forwards IT proposal to Vajpayee

George Iype in Bangalore

"I am forwarding a proposal to Prime Minister A B Vajpayee, in the form of a Japan-India information technology promotion and co-operation initiative," said 62-year-old Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori.

He was addressing business representatives in Bangalore on Tuesday afternoon.

"India is now recognised as an advanced country in the IT field. And I can see a great potential in promoting cross-dialogue and promotion with India in this field," Mori added.

Speaking of co-operation between India and Japan, he stated, "India possess high class software technology that it gives the world. And Japan has one of the largest markets of high technology in the world. Therefore, an extraordinary strong complimentary relationship can exist between India and Japan."

Earlier in the day, Mori visited the offices of Infosys and Wipro, where he met Infosys chairman Narayanmoorthy and Wipro chairman Azim Premji.

Later, he is expected to leave for New Delhi, to meet Vajpayee and other ministers, on his four-day visit.
