What: The British Council has launched the Indian Climate Champion 2008, a competition to select 20 young people from India as Ambassadors for mitigating the harmful effects of Climate Change.

Details:

~ Three students will be selected as International Climate Champions to represent India at meetings in London [Images], in March 2008 and in Kobe, Japan [Images] in May 2008, where environment ministers from the G8+5 countries will be meeting to discuss Climate Change.

~ Children between 16-18 years are eligible to enter the competition. They are expected to send in their completed application form to the respective regional offices of the British Council. The application form must include a paragraph (300 words) that needs to cover the following:

~ Introducing self, effect of climate change you have been exposed to and why you should be the chosen as the Indian Climate Champion 2008; and a News Report (800 words) about climate change issues in India.

~ The deadline for submitting the entries is February 04, 2008. 

~ The 20 Indian Climate Champions will receive a citation and prize. The prize will include a collection of books, DVDs and a weekend 'Climate Camp'. At the camp the Champions will get to interact with scientists and communication specialists. They will also be trained on climate communications planning and presentation. The three International Climate Champions will be selected from this group to represent India in London and Japan on 24-30 March and 18-26 May, 2008, respectively. All travel and accommodation costs for these trips will be met by the organisers.
