What: British Council's Corporate Social Responsibility Case Writing Competition -- 2007

Details:

~ British Council India is facilitating a collaborative project on "Corporate Social Responsibility: Curriculum Development, Teaching and Research" to contribute towards the teaching and research of CSR in Management/Business Schools.

~ The lead partners of the project are the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore's Centre for Corporate Governance and Citizenship and the International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility,  Nottingham University Business School, UK.

~ Original cases on Corporate Social Responsibility in South Asian settings are invited under the project for the award of Tata Steel [Get Quote] Prizes totalling Rs 5 lakhs (Rupees five hundred thousand), comprising Rs. 3 Lakhs (Rupees three hundred thousand) for the winner and Rs1 lakh each (Rupees one hundred thousand) for up to two runners-up as adjudged according to the Terms and conditions of the Competition.

~ Cases should be the original, unpublished work of the author(s) who should be able to assert their claim to its intellectual property and agree not to submit the case for publication or other dissemination until after the results of the competition are announced in January 2008.

~ The copyright of the prize winning articles would vest with the Centre for Corporate Governance and Citizenship at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, who will also consider acquiring similar rights in respect of selected other submissions at their exclusive discretion: an honorarium of Rs. 10,000 will be paid for each such selected case.

~ The Competition is open to teachers and research scholars in India and elsewhere (see Terms and Conditions for eligibility details) as long as the case itself is set in a South Asian context.

~ To ensure complete transparency and eliminate any bias in evaluation, submissions will be anonymously evaluated at the ICCSR in Nottingham, with teachers, scholars and others affiliated to that Centre during August 15 to December 31, 2007 being excluded from participating in the Competition.

~ Submissions will be received in the first instance by the British Council India whose employees and affiliates are also excluded from participating in this Competition. The Centre for Corporate Governance and Citizenship at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore will have no role in receiving or evaluating the submissions, and consequently teachers and scholars from the Institute (excluding the Centre's Chair) will be eligible to participate in the Competition.

Key dates:

1. Case Submission to British Council     : 15 November 2007
2. Announcement of the Awards    :  31 December 2007
3. Awards Presentation in Bangalore   :  3-4 January 2008

~ In the event of none of the submissions qualifying for the awards, it should be understood that there will be no presentations of awards; the IIMB Centre for Corporate Governance and citizenship however reserves the right to acquire selected submission on payment of the honorarium as indicated above. Also, in such an event, The British Council and the two Lead Partners, ICCSR and IIMB-CCGC in their complete discretion may decide to award one or more Encouragement Awards to any chosen submissions.

~ Submission of Cases in this competition would be governed by the Terms and Conditions; authors should carefully go through these and their submissions will also be construed as their agreement to be governed by the said Terms and Conditions. Neither the British Council India nor the two Lead Partners, ICCSR and IIMB-CCGC will entertain any correspondence on this subject; any lobbying or canvassing may lead to disqualifying the submission. In any matters of dispute relating to this Competition, the decision of the British Council India will be final and binding on the participants.  

~ Other than sponsoring the prize money for this Competition, Tata Steel are in no way involved in the processes of the Competition, and will not entertain any correspondence or other complaints on any matters relating to the Competition.
