Doctor, lawyer, engineer -- most students (and their parents) continue to perceive these as the most steady and rewarding careers. Though it might be true, there are a number of other professions that are just as lucrative, if not more. Artists are selling their paintings for millions and television hosts aren't faring too badly themselves either.
Careers that are not the usual fare usually draw skepticism and are easily dismissed as a fad or a fluke. But, with the growing number of success stories of how people followed their calling and managed to make a career for themselves, more students are starting to open up to newer, less-traditional careers.
We invite Get Ahead readers to share how they made a success of their unusual career choices in the face of cynicism.
