I took a home loan from Citibank, Pune.

At the time of taking the loan I was not aware of the EMI payment date. The bank began taking the EMI payment from my account on second of every month. This is a problem since my salary gets credited on the fifth of the month.

And then if there are insufficient funds, my bank -- ICICI Bank [Get Quote] -- charges non-clearing cheque fees (Rs 220).

I requested Citibank, via email, to change the EMI date to the sixth of every month. I have not received any reply.

What must I do?

You can request Citibank to change the date of your Equated Monthly Installment payment. This is not always possible. They may oblige only if their systems do allow such changes.

I suggest you contact the Citibank grievance redressal officer by using the following link.

Other than that, your only solution lies in making arrangement for at least one month's EMI in advance so that it is available for payment on the due date.
