When they were young, they say, they used to hide in the bathroom and browse through fashion magazines. If that sounds like the beginning of a salacious anecdote, think again. Siblings Penelope and Monica Cruz had fashion on their minds, not what you thought.
And -- this will teach you never to scoff at bathroom activities -- that childhood fascination with fashion will fructify, September 16, in the launch of a new fashion line for Spanish design house Mango.
The line, entirely designed by the two sisters, will include evening wear that won't be out of place on the red carpet, and your more basic jeans, knits and basics, all imbued with the Cruz style.
'This is something we've wanted to do for a long time,' media reports quote Cruz -- Penelope, that is -- as saying.
'We just had to find the right people to do it with. We've always loved clothes we used to hide in the bathroom with fashion magazines and say, 'I want that one'.'
Monica, left, who has her own rep as a television actress and dancer, will next be seen in the Belgian feature film Asterix at the Olympics [Images] -- with Clovis Cornillac as Asterix and French legend Gerard Depardieu as Obelix -- timed tentatively for a January 2008 release to cash in on the building excitement of the Beijing [Images] Olympics that year.
Sister Penelope meanwhile most recently made waves headlining the Pedro Almodvar movie Volver; upcoming projects include a starring role in Woody Allen's next.
