The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Opposition on Friday paralysed proceedings in Parliament for the fourth day on Friday over the political developments in Jharkhand and Goa.

Soon after the Lok Sabha assembled, leader of the Opposition Lal Kishenchand Advani demanded immediate recall of the governors of the two states.

He said 41 legislators from Jharkhand had met President A P J Abdul Kalam on Thursday and asked him to review the situation in the state.

The National Democratic Alliance members stormed the well raising slogans against the United Progressive Alliance government.

This prompted Speaker Somnath Chatterjee said, "It is a very sad day. There is absolutely no respect for the Chair and Parliament. I am compelled to adjourn the House."

In the Rajya Sabha, Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat adjourned the House first till 1230 hrs following protests from the Opposition over the Jharkhand issue. When the House reassembled, the uproarious scenes continued and it was adjourned for the day.

In the midst of the pandemonium, Deputy Chairman K Rehman Khan directed tabling of papers, including a statement by External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh on political developments in Nepal and his recent visit to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Following the adjournment, senior NDA leaders held a 30-minute meeting to discuss the developments.

"We are forced to do this because the Centre has not taken any action despite our protests," said BJP deputy leader in Lok Sabha V K Malhotra.

New governors should be appointed in both states and they should review the decision of their predecessors, he said.

The two Houses will meet next on Wednesday.
