Uma meets President, declares agitation against Sonia
May 17, 2004 16:01 IST
Voicing opposition to Congress president Sonia Gandhi's bid for prime ministership, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti on Monday said she will launch a nation-wide agitation as soon as Gandhi takes the oath of office.
Speaking to reporters after calling on President A P J Abdul Kalam, Bharti said the Congress-led coalition's decision to have Gandhi lead the new government is a dangerous conspiracy. "Videshi mool ke anari vyakti PM ban jaye (a naive person of foreign origins becoming prime minister) is not leaving a good example for our future generations," she said.
Bharti said she has been talking to other party leaders and a programme will be announced soon to oppose Gandhi's bid for the top office.
Maintaining that she has nothing personal against Gandhi, she said: "I oppose 100 per cent a person of foreign origins becoming the prime minister."
