On a day when Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was visiting Jammu, militants attacked a Congress poll meeting at Banihal on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway.

Police said six persons, including two policemen, were injured when militants hurled grenades at the rally on Wednesday afternoon.

The Congress candidate for Udhampur, Health Minister Chowdhary Lal Singh, was leaving the venue when the explosions occurred.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.

In another incident, six persons were injured in an improvised explosive device blast in Baramulla in northern Kashmir earlier in the morning.
