With barely two days to go for the first phase of the Jammu & Kashmir assembly election, all the necessary arrangements, including security and logistics, are in place, the Election Commission said in Srinagar on Saturday.
Nearly 2,400 government employees from Uttar Pradesh have been deployed in various areas on election duty, Jammu & Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer Pramod Jain told reporters.
One presiding officer and one polling officer will be stationed in all polling stations, he said.
Twenty-three assembly segments go to the polls in the first phase with 150 candidates in the fray.
Candidates in the Leh and Nobra constituencies in Ladakh have been declared elected unopposed, while election in the Lolab constituency of Kupwara district has been countermanded following the killing of National Conference candidate and state law minister Mushtaq Ahmed Lone on Wednesday.
The election for Lolab will now be held on October 8, Jain said, adding that the last date for nomination, meant only for a substitute National Conference candidate, would be September 21. The withdrawal date has been set for September 23.
Jain said the poll timings had been advanced by an hour for the four-phase election for the convenience of voters. Polling will now start at 0700 IST instead of 0800 and end at 1600 IST instead of 1700.
