Cracks in Bihar's RJD grow wider

Four Cabinet ministers in Bihar held secret talks following a demand for their ouster by Chief Minister Rabri Devi's brother Sadhu Yadav, MLA, and the expulsion of another legislator from the Rashtriya Janata Dal and a counter-demand by senior MLA Maheswar Prasad for the state's first couple's resignations.

Health Minister Mahavir Prasad, Education Minister Jayprakash Yadav, Public Health Engineering Department Minister Munshilal Rai and Energy Minister Shyam Rajak held a closed-door meeting in the capital Patna today.

Minutes of the meeting were not available, but the ministers are believed to have discussed their future strategy in view of the demand for their dismissal by RJD president Laloo Prasad Yadav's brother-in-law.

PHED Minister Rai has sent a letter to Laloo Yadav following the demand for his dismissal. The contents of the letter were not available.

The dissension in the RJD was aggravated with senior legislator Maheswar Prasad Yadav seeking the resignations of Laloo Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi from their respective posts for the party's poor performance in the Lok Sabha election.

In another development, RJD MLA from Banmankhi Chunnilal Rajvanshi and four others have been expelled from the party for six years on charges of anti-party activity.
