K K Tewari, Kalpnath Rai's widow get Congress ticketsFormer Union minister Prof K K Tewari and the widow of former Union minister Kalpnath Rai are among the 17 Congress candidates for the general election from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh announced today. The party, which is to contest 14 seats in alliance with the Rashtriya Janata Dal in Bihar, announced 11 candidates for the state and six for Uttar Pradesh. In Uttar Pradesh, the party has nominated Askaran Sankhwar in Ghatampur (scheduled caste) constituency in place of S L Balmiki, according to All-India Congress Committee general secretary Oscar Fernandes. The candidates for Uttar Pradesh are Sudha Rai (Ghosi), Ram Nihore Rakesh (Chail-SC), Sankhwar (Ghatampur-SC), Prakash Jaiswal (Kanpur), Ajay Singh (Agra) and Saeedul Hasan (Bulandshahr). The candidates in Bihar are Dr Mahachandra Prasad Singh (Maharajganj), Mubarak Hussain (Katihar), Thomas Hansda (Rajamahal-SC), Ramesh Hembram (Dumka-ST), Furkan Ansari (Godda), Shyama Singh (Aurangabad), Rajendra Prasad Singh (Giridih), Iswari Ram Paswan (Hazaribagh), Prof K K Tewari (Ranchi), Ghanshyam Mahto (Jamshedpur) and Sushila Karketta (Khunti-ST).
