Inquiry ordered into use of Kargil issue at PM's Gujarat meet

The chief electoral officer of Gujarat, Balwant Singh has asked the Kheda district collector to conduct an inquiry into the use of a poster depicting the Kargil issue during the prime minister's meeting at Kapadwanj.

Singh said all parties could debate on the Kargil issue and it was for the people to judge their claims and counter claims. However, as per the Election Commission's orders the posters relating to Kargil should not be used in any political meeting. He said one such incident did take place at the prime minister's meeting at Karnal, wherein Atal Bihari Vajpayee himself had informed his party workers that such posters should not be used during the poll campaign.

Now, it is for the concerned party to ensure that such incidents do not reoccur, he added. Singh said the Kheda district collector has been asked to hold an inquiry. Meanwhile, the election department has seized nearly 200 vehicles which were being used by political parties all over the state for campaigning without registering them at the respective district collector's office.
