JMM manifesto harps on separate statehoodThe Jharkhand Mukti Morcha today pledged to revive its movement for the creation of a separate state of Jharkhand soon after the Lok Sabha election. Promising to ensure early realisation of the region's five decades-old demand for statehood, the JMM plans to contest the election on its own. The separate state issue, a staple in the agendas of all political parties in south Bihar, figures prominently in the JMM poll manifesto, released this evening by party chief Shibu Soren. Other issues on which the JMM plans to approach the voters are the alleged neglect of the region by the governments at the Centre and in the state and the backwardness and exploitation of the area. The party, which is opposed to projects that lead to the displacement of natives, announced in its manifesto its determination to fight for the rehabilitation of tribals and non-tribals affected by existing projects in the region.
