Patels hold the sway in Gujarat

The Patel community, which is dominant in Gujarat since its formation, continues to hold sway in most of the 26 Lok Sabha constituencies, although the schedule tribes and Kshatriyas are in majority in many constituencies.

The Muslim factor may also be important in this border state as voters from this community hold the second position in six constituencies, and the third or fourth in all the remaining constituencies of Rajkot, Porbander, Junagadh, Amreli, Dhandhuka, Gandhinagar, Mehasana, Patan and Banaskantha.

The community is at the number two position in nine other constituencies of Surendranagar, Bhavnagar, Sabarkantha, Kapadvanj, Dahod, Godhra, Kheda, Anand and Vadodara and at the third position in Ahmedabad.

The Kshatriyas are in the second place in five constituencies. The community, also known as 'Darbar', are at the number one position in Surendranagar, Bhavnagar, Kapadvanj, Kheda and Anand and second position in Rajkot, Dhandhuka, Gandhinagar, Mehasana and Patan.

The scheduled tribes voters are leading in seven constituencies of Sabarkantha, Dahod, Godhra, Chhotaudepur, Bharuch, Mandvi and Valsad.

The Muslim voters have the highest strength in the Kutch constituency, bordering Pakistan. They also hold the second position in six constituencies of Porbander, Junagadh, Ahmedabad, Bharuch, Surat and Mandvi.
